Original Song by Jeff Daniels Tears Kelly Clarkson Apart

Jeff Daniels: Actor and Songwriter Extraordinaire

Jeff Daniels, widely recognized for his illustrious acting career, has earned nominations for Golden Globes, Primetime Emmy Awards, and Tony Awards, thanks to his standout roles in films such as Arachnophobia, Dumb and Dumber, and Speed. Yet, many are unaware of his musical prowess, which he showcased on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

With an acoustic guitar in hand, Jeff unveiled his original song, “When My Fingers Find Your Strings.” He described it as a love song to his guitar, inspired by tranquil moments on the porch with his “best friend, the guitar.” As he played, Kelly Clarkson was visibly moved, exclaiming to the audience, “What is happening?” By the end of the heartfelt performance, both Jeff and Kelly were in tears.

The studio audience and online viewers were equally entranced. The video of his performance rapidly garnered over 1.4 million views in under ten days. Fans lauded his musical ability, with one remarking, “Jeff Daniels isn’t even known for music, yet that was one of the most heartfelt, poetic, and well-structured songs I’ve ever heard. Not to mention some pretty good guitar playing. That, folks, is talent!”

During the interview segment, Jeff disclosed to Kelly that he has written around 450 original songs over the years. He explained that songwriting has been a source of solace and comfort, especially during the early stages of his acting career. It served as a creative outlet he could fully control, providing a backup plan in case acting didn’t work out. Reflecting on his dual talents, he humorously noted that he thought he could “fail as an actor and then fail as a singer-songwriter.” Clearly, he has succeeded in both fields.
